About Gregg D. and Awakened Recoveries
Gregg D., a recovered alcoholic, is a writer, poet, and university instructor, as well as a gifted speaker on the spiritual nature of recovery from alcoholism and addictions.
Gregg founded Awakened Recoveries to utilize the new capabilities of web-delivered media to provide a broader and more expansive program for his work and permit a more interactive relationship with his audience.
Gregg’s Own Recovery
Gregg’s recovery began in the aftermath of separation and divorce in 1993. Much of Gregg’s early sobriety was spent in travel for work. While AA meetings and sponsors played an important role in his recovery, the AA literature itself became the firm basis for his recovery.
Gregg has been an active part of the recovering communities in Florida, Virginia, Connecticut, and New York. He currently resides in the Berkshire Mountains of western Massachusetts.
His Professional Career
His professional career has taken him from a Washington law practice to international law and investment banking. Now launching into his “second” career, Gregg is a professional certified yoga teacher at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Stockbridge, MA, and volunteers yoga and meditation classes in the local county jail, the community corrections program, and various social service agencies in Pittsfield, MA.
Awakened Recoveries – Gregg’s Book, Workshops, and Retreats
Realizing the critical importance to his sobriety of the spiritual awakening promised in the Twelfth Step, Gregg wrote The Spirituality of Sobriety: Finding the Spiritual Awakening in Recovery from Alcoholism to share his experience and understanding of the AA literature to encourage others in recovery to find their way to their own unique spiritual awakening.
Broadening out his service work to include presenting professional workshops and leading weekend recovery retreats, Gregg brings a heart-opening message to alcoholics and addicts in all Twelve Step programs to introduce or enhance the spiritual aspects of the Twelve Step recovery program, creating the opportunity for an experiential practice of the principles leading to a spiritual awakening.
Ready to write his second book on the deeper spiritual aspects of Twelve Step recovery, Gregg chose to utilize the new capabilities of web-delivered media to provide a broader and more expansive program for his work and permit a more interactive relationship with his audience.
